Nook

Dear Diary,

The other night I went to Nook with my friends. We were craving some good pasta and we’ve all never been there before and wanted to try it out.

Location: They have amazing locations. They are in such prime areas such as Kitsilano, Shipyards, Science World, Downtown Vancouver, etc. We went to Shipyards that night! I love the Shipyards area so this location was perfect for us.

Service: I’m not going to lie it wasn’t good. Nobody checked in to see how we liked our drinks or food. I feel like this is one of the most basic things you can do. We had to ask people walking by to fill up our waters and it felt like such a hassle.

Food: I was expecting it to be much better!! It was very mid and I was disappointed. I felt like I could get better pasta literally anywhere else. I got the Rigatoni Arrabbiata – MID. It wasn’t bad but it was very mediocre. My friend got the Spaghetti Bolognese and of course, I had to try it. It tasted like no Bolognese I’ve ever had before and not in a good way. It was very meaty and had no tomato flavour to it. She agreed and her dad who just went and got this pasta also agreed! Straight beef and noodles. My other friend got the Gnocchi and I think this was the best one out of the 3.

Here’s my Rigatoni. It looks better than it tasted. You can also see my lemonade in the back that was in fact not a lemonade.

Drinks: I didn’t get any alcoholic drinks but we all got lemonade. This was the worst lemonade I’ve ever had. THIS IS NO EXAGGERATION. It was carbonated water with a slight hint of lemon to it. I couldn’t even finish it. I hate carbonated water so this is probably why. Our drinks sat there untouched all night and nobody even mentioned it. It was the farthest from a lemonade that I’ve ever had.

Prices: Everything was under $30 and it was reasonable.

Atmosphere: It was okay. It was kind of cute. It is very casual and all the staff wear the most casual clothes that you would never be able to tell who is an employee or not. However, it is cute and casual and that’s their intention. The location definitely helps with the vibe.

Experience: One thing I especially don’t like about Nook is that you can’t make reservations. I hate the uncertainty of this. This turns me off from going. I don’t want to wonder if I’m going to have to wait for my table or not. However, my biggest turn-off was my experience with the lemonade. I finally worked up the courage to complain about the lemonade and the server took them away COMPLETELY FULL and then charged us for it. They never even apologized or said ANYTHING AT ALL. This would never slide at JOEY’s. Read about it here.

I just can’t believe they had the audacity to charge us for a drink we never touched and tasted NOTHING like a lemonade. IT WAS SO FAR FROM IT and they would know if they took a sip. I felt like this was terrible customer service and if you went anywhere else, this wouldn’t have played out the way it did. We didn’t feel seen at all. I honestly would not come back here and don’t recommend it.
